Energy Cost Allowance for international students in Maastricht
In Dutch
Are you an international student struggling financially due to high energy bills? You will soon be able to apply for a one-off Energy Cost Allowance for international students from Gemeente Maastricht (the municipality of Maastricht). You can get an amount of 400 euros if you meet all the conditions. Check the application form on the municipality's application page.
Main criteria
The Energy Cost Allowance is meant for international students aged 18 and over with little savings and low income. Low income means 1.133 EUR net per month for vocational (MBO) students. For higher education (HBO) or university (WO) students, this is 1.340 EUR net per month. Single parents can add 335 euros to the maximum amounts.
You must have been enrolled in a full-time course at a vocational, higher education or university level for at least 6 months. Other important criteria include living in an independent residence or a rented room, paying your own energy costs and not receiving student finance from DUO.
What is DUO?
DUO is the Dutch government’s agency for student finance. Students receiving student finance from DUO automatically get an energy allowance if they meet the conditions. For more information, visit DUO | International visitor.
